Nerja

Verëffentlecht: 30.01.2022

Many people have told me about Nerja, a small tourist town on the Costa del Sol. I'm excited to finally see it for myself.

The parking lot I find is the one Friedel described to me. Despite being so centrally located, it's very quiet. On the first day, I meet Rafael through Couchsurfing. He's from Israel and has been living in Nerja for a few weeks. During an evening walk, he shows me the town center and we stop for a cozy tea.

The next day, the sun is shining in a cloudless sky. The bustling activity in the parking lot in the morning doesn't bother me thanks to the birds chirping in the trees. Some people are walking or jogging along the dried-up Río de Chillar towards the sea.

A short bike ride takes me to the beautiful beach, which is well-equipped with toilets and beach showers. It's wonderfully warm during the day at this time of year, the sea is refreshingly cool, and there are hardly any tourists. It's a wonderful place where I end up staying for 4 nights.

Due to tourism, the town center is full of restaurants from all over the world, especially Indian restaurants where you can get a 3-course meal at a reasonable price. Unlike other Spanish cities, some cafeterias here are open all day and most have Wi-Fi and power outlets. This is a huge advantage for digital nomads like me. :-)

Typical Spanish: Toast with tomatoes & olive oil

In addition to working and swimming in the sea, my days are also filled with new experiences. I book a Japanese massage at Yogadventure. The 15-minute massage not only feels good on my back, but also has an energetic effect on my whole system. The masseuse, Donna from Sweden, also offers yoga and qigong, so the next day I attend her qigong class by the sea. I tried qigong a few years ago but couldn't connect with it at that time. This time, I am receptive to it and enjoy playing with the energy. :) So now, in addition to the Indian teachings of yoga and Ayurveda, I am also getting to know Japanese/Chinese medicine. Fascinating :)
