The SH75 from Përmet to Lake Ohrid.

Verëffentlecht: 11.05.2022

After spending the night at the thermal springs, we decided at short notice to change our route towards Lake Ohrid. The navigation system showed 130km until then. Along the Vjosa River, one of the last natural rivers in Europe, we made good progress on the mountain road until Leskovik. Currently, the road surface is being renewed. In Albania, such construction sites are not closed due to traffic. While the road roller flattens the asphalt on the left, you are waved by the friendly construction workers on the right.

However, behind Leskovik, the SH75 turned out to be a challenge. The road is in a very poor condition, there have been no lane markings for a long time, and the average speed is 20 km. In some sections, the road has slipped or is no longer there at all. For kilometers, you don't encounter anyone. Occasionally, a shepherd or goatherd waved to us on the side of the road. One came straight to the car and simply smiled at us. I have never seen such a happy, toothless smile before.

With a few short breaks at particularly remarkable places or springs, we eventually arrived in Korça. Originally, we wanted to take a break and stay overnight here. However, after a short tour of the city, we couldn't find anything appealing and decided to continue driving until Progeadec. And what can I say, finally a superbly well-developed road. It was a pleasure to cover the last 40km.

In total, it took us nearly 6 and a half hours for the 130km. Only half an hour for the last 40km. It was an exciting experience, but we don't need to have it again.
