Under a few circumstances we finally managed to get a car! Originally we planned to buy a car in Auckland. But the car market was worse than expected, so we flew to Christchurch (South Island) on a whim. Which was good, because the ferry from Wellington to Picton (North Island-South Island) was fully booked until March. Which would have been bad for us, as we want to spend more time on the South Island.
In Christchurch, we made ourselves comfortable on a campsite in our tent. Luckily we have it with us.
The search for a car continued. And successfully, after two days we suddenly had our Hapi.
Things can go pretty fast here! You write to the seller at 10 p.m. and the next day you own a car in New Zealand. The Kiwis are very uncomplicated there. There is hardly any paperwork and you simply register the car in your name at the post office.
Before our road trip starts the next day, we pimped our Hapi a bit. We went to op-shops (similar to second-hand shops) and improved our camping equipment a bit. In the stores you can really get everything!! And super cheap. Cups for $1, pots for $3, duvets for $5, playing cards, fairy lights....
Afterwards we went to the hardware store, to the warehouse and to the car wash.
And then it finally started...
Out of the city and into the beautiful nature!
