The city is smoking

Verëffentlecht: 15.03.2017

Improvements in sight. The sun comes out late in the morning. Finally.

We spend the sunny morning in Rotorua.

Actually, this Rotorua is a completely normal New Zealand city. If it weren't for the smell. A slight to moderate smell of sulfur that you can smell in every corner of the city. In the city park, we embark on a search for the causes. In the middle of the city, you can admire the volcanic activities of the area. Bubbling mud pools and a small lake covered in a sulfur-smelling mist. From there, we continue our walk to Lake Rotorua, where a Māori village can be found on its shores. We stroll past houses adorned with shells. Here, too, you often find a hole in the "front yard" of the houses, from which smoke and a strong smell rise.

After we are back at the camper, we start heading north. Since the weather there is good, unlike in Tongariro National Park. We drive to Tairua, a small village on the Pacific. From there, we want to explore the coast tomorrow.

When we arrive at the small campsite and the weather is warm and it is still relatively early in the afternoon, we decide to go for a little "hike". From a hill nearby, you are supposed to have a wonderful 360-degree view of the surroundings. Let's go there! After a rather short but steep ascent, we take a break and enjoy the view.

After a cold shower (cold water was free) and a few wraps, we go to sleep. Tomorrow morning, we want to experience the sunrise on the beach.
