11.05.2023 The Godfather

Verëffentlecht: 12.05.2023

Today it's time to change location again, or as my friends from Cologne (right, Micha - or?) like to say: 🎼 The caravan moves on….! We planned our route to Realmonte so that we pass through Corleone, a former mafia stronghold. This background prompted Mario Puzo to write his novel "The Godfather". On the way to Corleone, we come across road signs indicating that the route is closed. However, we interpret this to mean that the road is only accessible by a jeep or an enduro, which turned out to be true - in the true sense of the word. The town of Corleone is also closed - according to the road signs, it is impossible to pass through. Using the navigation system, we weave through the city and actually come out on the other side with a wonderful view back to the city and the gorge where the mafia made many people disappear. Then we continue on small roads, with one scenic surprise after another. Unfortunately, there is an immense amount of trash on both sides of the road. Almost every rest stop is used as a garbage dump. But it's not just Sicily that has a trash problem - no, it's all of Italy. If you want to learn more, you can find some quirky information on the internet. In tourist areas, there seems to be a certain restraint, but on our cross-country route, the amount of garbage in nature is a catastrophe. Arriving in Realmonte, we experience an odyssey for the second time when it comes to "finding your accommodation". And this time, it's not just the house number that is wrong - no - the name of the house is completely different too. It costs us 40 minutes, but we stay calm and check in. The hostess simply dismisses the mention of the incorrect information on the website with a smile and a hand gesture.
