On the coast near Nazaré

Verëffentlecht: 01.09.2023

Nearby there was another work of art by the artist Bordalo II, whose rabbits were so fascinating in Porto. Next to the work of art, this time a bird, there was a market hall, which was a great place for a pasteis de nata for breakfast. After watching some fishermen sitting by the water with professional equipment and listening to loud music (one hit followed the next, starting with Modern Talking...), we continued south along the Atlantic. Next stop was in a small fishing village, at the Hummer, Bordalo II's third work of art. There was a celebration in this place, and there were games set up everywhere in the main street, which we happily tried out. It was really fun and reminded me of the youth festivals of the past.

The next stop was in Nazaré, the place with the biggest waves in the world. It wasn't easy to find a parking space where we could leave Louise parked relatively safely, and driving into the city center wasn't an alternative due to the large number of visitors. At some point we stood and walked to the world-famous spot. The wind was whipping hard on the way to the lighthouse. The waves down below were also bigger, but far smaller than in October/November when the monster waves form there.

Due to a lack of alternatives, we headed for a lonely place above the sea. The access was easy to navigate and the spot was still free, which could have been due to the fairly strong wind. However, the view and the sunset were so fantastic that we were happy to accept the rocking caused by the wind.
