As mentioned in the last blog post, I got up early this morning. Our alarm clock rang at 2:30 AM and with only 3.5 hours of sleep, I wasn't exactly motivated to start the day.
We left the house around 3 o'clock and walked 5 kilometers to the base of the mountain. Then we spent a good 3 hours climbing the mountain in the dark.
Once we reached the top, I felt relieved, proud, and excited to see the sunrise from up there. We had our breakfast, pancakes and a smoothie, at the summit. So it was definitely worth hiking up there at night.
We enjoyed the view for about an hour and then started our descent.
When we reached the bottom, we decided to hitchhike back to the house. We treated ourselves to a lunch and then fell exhausted into bed.
We met Sam, Lynda and Rob's son, and visited him at his burger joint in the evening to have a burger.
We are enjoying the evening here in Wanaka. The family offered us to stay for another day, and since we were so exhausted today and not really excited about hitchhiking to Queenstown, we're happy to have found such a great accommodation and will stay here until tomorrow.
Distance covered today: 30 km 👌🏻
