A friend of mine emigrated to Switzerland over 2 years ago to work there. Now my husband and I found time to visit her in her new home of Interlaken for the first time, even if only for a very short time.
The journey took us via Bregenz, past Zurich. The speed limits, which are taken more seriously in Switzerland than here, weren't that much of a problem. What we hadn't thought about, however, is that we don't have internet in Switzerland, which is why we couldn't contact my girlfriend when we were there and stood in front of the locked door. It doesn't matter, we drove a little further and walked along Lake Thun. We passed a castle ruin that was worth seeing. In the evening we just enjoyed seeing my friend and her boyfriend again.
Clouds and drizzle were forecast for the next day, which is why my friend didn't recommend Interlaken's local mountain for hiking, but rather the town of Lauterbrunnen, which many people probably know from Instagram. No sooner said than done, we drove the 10 minutes over and, contrary to expectations, the weather was great! Sunshine and warm temperatures. We noticed that there were a lot of a) Asians and b) significantly richer people there. We felt a bit out of place. But when we hiked below the gondola to Grütschalp, it was beautiful. When we got to the top there wasn't even a little snow. At around 1500-1600m we then hiked parallel to the train tracks to Mürren and enjoyed the view of the four-thousand-meter Jungfrau, Mönch and the cloud-covered Jungfraujoch. In the evening the four of us went out to dinner (well, that was expensive...) and walked through Interlaken and Unterseen at night. We saw the old town of Unterseen, the town center (old town would be saying too much because it is simply incredibly touristy) of Interlaken, the Aare, a crass hotel that looks like something out of a movie, a big one in the middle of the city, the casino with its beautiful garden and many cute houses.
The following day it was supposed to rain constantly, so we just took a look at the city of Thun, which is definitely very beautiful in summer and when it's not raining. So we left it with a tour of the old town, where the sidewalk is partly one level above the street and the castle hill, because we were already soaking wet. Then we make our way home. On the way we stopped in Neuhausen to look at the Rhine Falls, which I had wanted to see for a long time, and then arrived back home after long traffic jams and a lot of rain.
