Hello dear ones,
today there is only a short entry, on the one hand there is not much to report and on the other hand I am really tired and could go to sleep now at just before 9.
This morning we said goodbye to our nice hosts after I printed out all sorts of things from them again. I really have to say that Brad and his wife from Havelock 16 are incredibly friendly and accommodating and run a wonderful Bed & Breakfast. So if anyone comes to New Plymouth, stay there.
After that we went into town again to open a bank account and to talk to the Vodafone people about why I get the same SMS (at least 10 times a day).. Despite all sorts of attempts, they couldn't help me, but now I have a service number that I will probably have to call at some point so that the IT people can help me.
Let's get to my renewed attempt to open a bank account.. You need your passport, your visa, and proof of address for that. So far so good, Brad was so kind to write me a note that I live with him. So we went to the ANZ Bank with high hopes first. But they couldn't help us there. Since Brad is not a customer of ANZ Bank and I wouldn't live there permanently, they couldn't open an account for me. Oh great. Fortunately, I had Mom with me because she said we could try it at the other bank, Westpac. And lo and behold, a very friendly employee took care of us and actively looked for solutions to enable me to open an account. In cooperation with her manager and after a phone call with the headquarters, my account was opened in no time at all and I am now the proud owner of a New Zealand bank card. Another step off my list. At this point, I would like to thank the friendly staff of the Westpac branch in New Plymouth once again.
After that, we got back into the car and headed towards our new destination: Ohakune. A small town between two national parks and one of the ski resorts on the North Island, so there is currently not much going on here. We decided not to take the shortest route, but to take a slight detour to drive along the national parks for as long as possible. In our opinion, the right decision. Four hours of driving flew by. Dreamlike views as well as the winding, steep and sometimes unpaved road made this journey a little adventure. When we arrived at our destination, we checked into the hotel and then took a one-hour walk along the jungle and along a river. After that, we went for a delicious meal. Our table neighbors were very friendly and had a nice conversation with us and gave me some tips on what else I should visit.
So that's it for today. I wish you all a good day and see you soon.
Jessi
