07.03.2018 - Counter #026 The Wild Goat

Verëffentlecht: 19.03.2018

The last evening on the South Island - tomorrow I will be traveling on the North Island.

From Picton, you can take a ferry journey of about 3 hours to Wellington on the North Island. The journey through the Marlborough Sound is breathtakingly beautiful. You wish you could live in one of the beautiful beach houses in the remote bays. Very nice! Until you reach the open sea. It can be quite choppy in strong winds, even with such a large ferry.

Back to Picton. There isn't much to see here. For most people, it's just a stopover before they take the ferry or if they arrive and don't want to continue right away.

There is a nice promenade with many restaurants and shops. I ended up at "Le Café" while looking for a restaurant. I was drawn to the small, clear menu. Especially the "Wild Goat ragout". I had a goat goulash.

Since I was hungry and the kitchen doesn't open until 6 p.m., I ordered sourdough bread with olives and olive oil from the Seresine winery (I went there during my extensive wine tastings in Marlborough, very nice). The olive oil was amazing. Can easily compete with any top Spanish, Greek or Italian oil. It also has a similar liter price (about 40 EUR).

The goat goulash was really amazing! In terms of taste and texture. A real soul food meal. Just the way I like it!
