Hello friends of water,
(I have to mention something more than just the sun here)
I'm telling you about part of, or rather the bright part of, my day at Lake Tekapo. After my frosty bath the day before at Lake Camp, I decided that a warm shower really does have its advantages, so I stayed at the campsite for a night. Since I want to drive on to Mount Cook today and there is only a cold shower at the DOC site there, I dragged it out as much as I could and enjoyed it.
After I arrived there, I walked into the small town and walked the whole way along the lake. On the way, I even saw a few isolated lupins in bloom and took a few photos of them. The lupins are beautiful but they are not original kiwis. I still thought it was nice to see some of these colorful spectacles in bloom. Compared to the high season, this is certainly only a hint of the splendor of color when the entire lake shore is colorful.
Instead, I had colorful trees on the lake shore. I kept walking towards the old little church of the Good Shepherd and passed the newly built pedestrian bridge on the way. The old church is very cute and although I was there in the off-season, I have to say there was a lot going on.
Then my feet carried me further to the lake shore and I balanced a little over the stones. The boulderer in me had to climb to the last stone that was even remotely reachable by any means necessary - that was great fun. I even had to build a small stone bridge on the last step so that I could jump onto the last big stone.
When I arrived at the campsite, I showered, cooked rice for the next few days and ate delicious avocado and beetroot hummus bread. After that, I sat down in a small heated lounge and blogged a bit. When it got dark and I walked to the car, I was able to see the first stars and the Milky Way was perfectly visible. So, despite the cold, I decided to hike up Mount John. There is a large observatory here and I set off for the south summit at 8:30 a.m. The tour was scheduled to take around 2 hours there and back. There is a separate post about my nighttime experience and the pictures.
Until then,
stays nice and fresh,
Your Britta
