Day 15: Glenwood Springs

Verëffentlecht: 06.07.2024

It is cold at night. This morning it is 10°C in the camper and I am freezing. Since we have no power at the site, we can either start the generator or just freeze. So, I delay getting up for a long time and move around to get going. Our journey today will take 3 hours. In planning, we consciously decide to cover long distances for two days as there are hardly any activities on site. We drive through the mountains. After 45 minutes, we pass through Glenwood Springs and spontaneously decide to go swimming. There is a swimming pool here, heated by hot springs. Back then, 4 months ago during planning, the price showed as $30 per person, David would be free. At the entrance, we now find out that the summer prices are significantly higher. What can I say, when two kids look at you expectantly, you pay the total price of $162. We decide to stay longer for that. The swimming pool is great. The sun is shining, the pools are pleasantly warm. There are water slides and a diving board. It's fun and we don't get cold. There are also some thermal pools. The skin tingles when you immerse into the 'cold' water. In total, we spend 4 hours in the water and then have to drive another 2 1/2 hours northeast. René handles it very well again. On the way, we see many mountains, rivers, and animals like bighorn sheep and bald eagles. Unfortunately, the roads are not always good, so we have to drive almost 30 kilometers on a road that is almost considered unpaved. Around half past 6, we reach our campsite. We are at Shadow Mountain Lake just before the Rocky Mountain National Park. Now I quickly prepare a pizza dough and we make campfire bread and small pizza breads over the fire. For dessert, there are marshmallows.
