.....well, we did both ^^ Yesterday, on my insistence, we drove to Abbey Caves. Paddy was still not entirely thrilled about crawling through narrow caves just to see some glowworms and stalagmites. We read on the internet that the descent is not easy and that we might need to wade through water. NO ONE mentioned that it would end with us holding our backpacks over our heads and standing in water up to our belly buttons!!!!But let's start from the beginning.... We arrive at the caves in the afternoon. There are a total of three caves of different sizes. Well...why hesitate - let's just go to the biggest one! Paddy (....clever!) has his headlamp handy - I only have my flashlight app. When we see the descent at the entrance, we realize that it's not going to be easy at all. But it doesn't matter - we're here now. I climb ahead and hope I don't slip. Once we reach the bottom, we have to take off our shoes and walk on sharp rocks....Water shoes or something would have been nice. Oh well....turning back is not an option, so we continue climbing and clinging to walls.... And then.....we turn off the light and the whole ceiling shimmers turquoise-blue.....indescribable. I can't even describe it.... The internet also mentioned that each cave has an entrance and an exit, so I encourage Paddy to keep going, keep climbing....and of course, my battery dies ^^ So I continue stumbling in the dark, trying not to stumble. By this point, the water reached up to our belly buttons, I didn't have pants on anymore, and Paddy didn't look as enthused anymore ^^ BUT why turn back - there's an exit :D oh well......After about an hour, we finally reach a passage AND - DEAD END!!! ..... DEAD END!!!! I guess the passage was just flooded....so we have to backtrack the whole underground path. ......Paddy is relieved at the exit - I'm disappointed that we didn't make it to the others - but I make him promise to come back in November - when it hasn't rained as much - We'll see :D
