Stage 130: From Sélestat to Kaiseraugst

Verëffentlecht: 30.09.2022

After a small breakfast, we quickly continued on our way to avoid being discovered by any farmers. Besides, Colmar, one of the most famous cities in Alsace, was not far away. There, I took the time for sightseeing, although I didn't want to sit in a restaurant alone. It can sometimes feel a bit awkward. But the beautiful half-timbered houses and the narrow canals were truly worth seeing. The onward journey from Colmar turned out to be a bit challenging. My GPS wanted to take me through the forest area in the south, which turned out to be a hunting area. I even heard a few gunshots and didn't want to take any risks. I didn't want anyone to mistake me for a wild boar!

I decided not to take the detour via Mulhouse, but instead wanted to continue all the way to Basel. Just before Basel, I met Markus, a cyclist on a tour of Germany (he started in Hamburg) who was reaching his final destination in Basel. I gave him some plums and told him about my route through Asia. He briefly considered whether he should accompany me to the campsite. He actually had a tent and everything, but he always took a hotel room on his tour. But at the age of 50, that's also allowed. In the end, though, he decided to go back to a soft bed.

I also passed by Basel and continued on to Kaiseraugst. There was a relaxed and, especially by Swiss standards, very affordable campsite there, even with a small swimming pool. Unfortunately, the camping area itself was quite loud, but it wasn't a major problem for one night.
