Day 074-075 "Grown up, the Koalas are not easy"

Good morning, you Christmas enthusiasts...

From our Wombat destination (Wilson's Promontory National Park), the Riddler took us on an adventurous expedition to Pettman Campsite, about 312km east along the coast. Arriving dusty at the coastal section, we quickly got to work to finish everything before dusk.

Set up beds, cook food, do the dishes... after all, the sunset does not wait for us.

Day 075

We had a rather mixed night. Our homemade pasta (for over 2 months) from the night before was weighing heavily on our stomachs.

8:30 a.m. is when the night ends. Only Ulli got an extra hour of snoozing πŸ˜‚.

By 11 a.m., breakfast was consumed, the rest was packed up, and brushing teeth was postponed to the next gas station. Because of the current danger of bushfires, we did not want to be the last ones to drive through the section. On the way there, we actually had another kangaroo hopping in front of the lens.

Gas stations ⛽️ have four advantages.

  1. Gas 😱
  2. Wi-Fi
  3. Toilet + water 🦷 πŸ’¦
  4. Power for toothbrush + camera battery

We could spend at least 15€ per person every day just to get electricity/Wi-Fi/shower/toilet in one of the campsites. The places we choose are usually free. (We only book if there is no other option)

We have simple drop toilets like grandma's. We wash ourselves with water from our own 20l canister and a solar shower. The hotspot with a 20GB prepaid SIM for 28 days has to be enough, otherwise we will run out of money soon πŸ’΅.

Today's destination is Mallacoota with a sleeping spot in Genoa. A distance of 205km.

On the road, we found not only kangaroo signs but also ones with the coveted "teddy bears" on them.

There must be something to be found πŸ€—.

And indeed. We drove along a long dusty track, through eucalyptus forest. And then, on the 541st eucalyptus tree, Teddy was hanging in an ast fork on the left.😍🐨 Only his butt was visible. But my Teddy spotter πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ immediately spotted two Koalas. I'm already bad at finding mushrooms. And now Koalas too.

With a great experience and even better photos/impressions, we eventually arrived at our destination πŸ•. And we rounded it off with fried potatoes and cucumber salad, in a festive way.

Bon appΓ©tit. πŸ˜‹
