After our super delicious breakfast, we decide to spend the day at the hotel pool after a long decision-making process. Reading, swimming, and enjoying the sun, as the Swiss say.
In the late afternoon, we take the metro to the Creek (river), where small boats shuttle back and forth for less than 1CHF per person. Perfect timing, the sun is setting and casting a magical red glow on all the houses. It's a breathtaking backdrop, amidst the loud boat engines and the fishy smell of the Creek. On the other side, we find ourselves in 'Little India'. I want to buy a scarf for our next trip to the mosque. Unfortunately, all the vendors are very pushy, calling me Shakira or touching Kay, which doesn't really entice us to visit the shops, even though I would have loved to browse through the exceptionally beautifully embroidered scarves.
We continue with the metro to the famous 'The Walk'. I didn't research it in detail, apparently the sheikhs drive by in their luxury cars in the evenings... Yawn for me, WOW for Kay.
So, at 'The Walk', there is no road passing by, only a river with yachts and a pedestrian zone... I have no idea if we are at the wrong 'The Walk'. Nevertheless, we like it with the uniquely shaped skyscrapers and the illuminated palm trees. Feeling half-starved, we look for a restaurant. Delicious Arabic food... for me, because Kay remains faithful to his pasta!
We want to continue to the Marina Beach by the sea, and once again, we walk in the wrong direction despite Google Maps. Believe me, it's not funny in this heat! After an infinitely long 20 minutes along the road, amidst various construction sites, we reach a promenade with designer shops. We continue strolling along the colorful street, and after another 10, much more pleasant, minutes, we are at the beach. There are small beach shops everywhere. Just my thing! The Turkish ice cream vendor gives me the most joy. He jokes with his customers, gives them empty cones, almost drops the ice cream, or smears it on their nose. It was a really beautiful evening.
