14.07.2016 - bye bye Venice

Published: 15.07.2016

The last day in Venice. But we still make the most of it. After breakfast, we take the boat to the (panoramic) tower Campanile di San Giorgio. It is located on the island opposite. Here you have the best view of the lagoon. Direct view of the promenade with the Markusplatz (Piazza S. Marco) behind it, the Palazzo Ducale and, on the left side, the Palazzo Reale (with Sisi's chambers).

In addition to transporting tourists, water is also used for all other logistical tasks. Construction machinery (e.g., excavators), new wooden piles for house foundations and landing stages, food and drinks.

The weather is no longer so oppressive and humid today. This makes walking in the winding streets easier and more pleasant. Without a plan and Katharina's navigation skills, you quickly get lost in the labyrinth of Venetian alleys. And yet you are never sure whether you will encounter a larger square, another church, a dead end (door or canal without a bridge), or more winding alleys behind the next corner. The tension remains :-)

In the evening, we pick up our suitcases from the hotel and say goodbye (unfortunately) to this completely different world. The train station brings us back to reality and takes us to Mestre to the car park. The car is safe and undamaged -> Relief.

Next stop is Grado. Another, unknown lagoon in the north of the Adriatic Sea. Here we finally have beach walks waiting for us.
