About Büsum to Iceland

Published: 12.04.2023

It's about to start again ...
On May 7, 2023 we will travel to Büsum. After a week of beach vacation, we will continue to Kiel. We will depart from there on May 14. We will visit the Nordic islands and Iceland.

07.05.2023

We started this morning in Gschlachtenbretzingen shortly before seven. It went really well, and we arrived in Büsum just after half past two. From our apartment in the high-rise building, we have a magnificent view of Büsum and the North Sea. The sun is shining, but the wind is blowing.

08.05.2023

Today we spent the whole day in and around Büsum. The sun was out almost all day, but unfortunately, so was the wind. In the afternoon, we went to the roof of the high-rise building. From there, you have a magnificent view. Now we are sitting in front of the town hall and enjoying the evening sun. Today we had Asian food for dinner.

09.05.2023

Another day just to relax. Sun, but again a lot of wind. Some shopping in town, snacks at Gosch, and dinner at the Italian restaurant.

10.05.2023

At around 10 o'clock, the rain started. That's why we visited the Phänomania with over 200 experiments. The visit was really worth it. When we arrived, the parking meter wasn't working, so we could only put the parking disc behind the window. When we came back, there was a parking ticket for 20 euros. Matthias sent an email to the city, maybe it will help. Now we'll have spaghetti with mozzarella.

11.05.2023

Another day in Büsum and just doing nothing. Strolling, shopping, drinking coffee, and people-watching 😊.

12.05.2023

Today, we went to the hairdresser first. After breakfast, around noon, we went to St. Peter Ording. So much beach as far as the eye can see. After an extensive beach walk and a fish sandwich at Gosch, we went back to Büsum.

13.05.2023

Once across the mudflats, walk on the seawall, eat a fish sandwich at Gosch, have a rhubarb spritzer in the bay... and pack our suitcases. Tomorrow we're going to Kiel on the ship. In the evening, we'll have another delicious dinner at Ralf's... Büsum was beautiful.

14.05.2023

In the morning, shortly after half-past nine, we left Büsum. Our next destination is Parken & Meer in Kiel. We dropped off the car and luggage, then took the bus to the cruise terminal. The Aida Bella is already waiting. We're leaving at 6 p.m. Tomorrow we will start with a seaweed before we dock on Tuesday, after 672 nautical miles (1244 km), in Lerwick on the Shetland Islands.

16.05.2023

Lerwick, the capital of the Shetland Islands. After tendering, we walked through the city on foot. The main sights are easy to reach on foot. We had great weather for this area. It was dry but very cold and windy. The sun even came out occasionally. It's beautiful here in Scotland.

18.05.2023

Next stop Reykjavik. We arrived there at 10 a.m. The weather was not the best, but there was still a lot to see and discover. We took the bus on the Golden Circle.

Impressive was the Thingvellir National Park, where the Eurasian and North American plates meet and move away from each other by 2.5 cm per year.

The next stop was the Gulfoss Waterfall. There we had something to eat, and then there was a photo shoot at the waterfall.

The last stop was at the Strokkur Geysir. There we could see the water fountain shooting up into the air.

Once we were back at the port, we quickly changed in our cabin and took the harbor shuttle to the city.

19.05.2023

Isafjördur... The entrance was spectacular. Unfortunately, we're leaving again. We had extreme gusts of wind, and the ship couldn't enter the harbor. Tendering also didn't work. Now all excursions are canceled, and we're continuing to Akuyuri. At least we saw our first puffin here.

20.05.2023

The evening before, we stayed awake until the ship docked in Akuyuri. Then we went to bed. When we woke up in the morning, we were in the middle of the sea again. We were quite puzzled. Due to strong gusts, sometimes wind force 12, the ship couldn't stay in the harbor. That's it for Akuyuri.

21.05.2023

Today, tendering was scheduled in Seydisfjördur. It was more beautiful in the small town than expected. Two years ago, there was, or rather, there were several mudslides. This natural disaster cost several houses, and many are no longer allowed to be inhabited.

22.05.2023

Since we were still in front of Seydisfjördur until 12.30 p.m., we went ashore again. We went for a short hike and passed several waterfalls. Iceland was beautiful.

24.05.2023

Orkney Islands

Our excursion to the Stones of Stennes and the Ring of Brodgar started at 10 a.m. Afterwards, we went to a cliff where birds breed. We then took the bus transfer to the town of Kirkwall. Sunshine, but also strong winds accompanied us the whole time. It's really beautiful there.

25.05.2023

When we got up, we were just entering the port of Invergordon. Scotland is simply amazing. We visited Loch Ness, Inverness, and the Cawdor Castle. It's a shame we didn't have more time in Inverness. In Inverness, we had lunch at a café, jacket potatoes, one with cheese and ham, and one with tuna. The food was delicious. Our excursion started at 8.30 a.m., and we were back at 4.30 p.m. Now we're leaving the port of Invergordon.

27.05.2023

After a sea day, we arrived in Aarhus. Aarhus is the second-largest city in Denmark. We spent a great day in the city on our own.

28.05.2023

Back in Kiel, that was our trip with the Aida Bella to the Nordic countries with Iceland. It was a great trip where many things turned out differently than planned. We experienced wind force 12, on Iceland, we couldn't go ashore in Islafördur and Akuyuri due to the weather. But we had a great captain, Claas Kramer, who always took the time to explain to the passengers why we couldn't dock or had to leave earlier. And we met many nice people.
