Adelaide and drive into the Outback

Published: 23.02.2020

Friday 21.02.2020: Arrival in Adelaide. First, we look for a parking space and realize that it is extremely crowded. The reason is a car race, the Superloop 500 for special touring cars. The first place is taken, at the second place we get the last available spot. We take the bus to the city, the fare must be paid in exact change, but we don't have it. After a discussion, we pay for one ticket, the second person rides for free. We explore the city center, which is surrounded by a green belt. In the evening, we have dinner at a Thai restaurant. We decide to leave it at that and continue our journey the next morning.

Saturday 22.02.2020: Today our Outback adventure begins and our first leg takes us to Glendambo, 597 km. In between, we make a stop in Padthaway for shopping, visit the painted silos in Coonalpyn, as well as the small port town of Port Pirie. On Benjamin's recommendation, we take a slight detour of 90 km (it doesn't matter anymore) to the Quandong Cafe in Quorn. @ Ben: Thank you for the recommendation. We continue our drive through Port Augusta until Glendambo, where we arrive at 7 PM. No car in front of us, no car behind us, we get the impression that we are the only crazy ones traveling here. The only excitement are the mighty road trains coming towards us. Once they're in motion, nothing and no one can stop them.
