Hello Autobahncampingplätze!

Published: 23.10.2021

On our way to Madrid, we stop for two nights. Our first night at a campsite near Burgos, right next to the highway. Unremarkable place with a large iron gate behind a restaurant. Sanitary facilities like in a hotel, we don't expect that. A seemingly popular place for travelers passing through. When we ask if dogs are allowed on the premises, the lady gives us a strange look. In Spain, we experience multiple times that this is not an issue at all and there are no extra charges for dogs.

The second night, we already spend in Andalusia. A small town called 'Santa Elena' right in the mountains next to the highway. You hardly see any people on the streets, and upon arrival at the campsite (around 2:30 pm), it seems like there is almost no one here. What we don't take into account, of course, is that people here take a siesta and the campsite actually closes until 5 pm. We're lucky that an employee sees our arrival and comes back to check us in. A small nature campsite without much fuss. Around the campsite, the view is filled with olive trees, many of them bearing fruits. We notice how the temperatures slowly rise as we head south. The next morning, after giving a jump start to two embarrassed English people for their motorhome, we head straight for Madrid.
