Hey, I've been in paradise for the past few days and it was amazing ☀️
Tortuguero is actually just a small village, but it has become a tourist hotspot in the region in recent years because of the surrounding national park. Starting in April, turtle hatching occurs on the beach, making it a significant nesting site.
However, the charm of the place has not been lost and I was very grateful to find vegan food easily for a change 🌈 - vegan ceviche is incredibly good, I could eat it every day.
Ultimately, the days consisted of lying on the beach and then going to observe animals again. The biodiversity is enormous, there are so many different birds (the rainbow toucans were especially cool), small crocodiles (that just swim in the river next to the boats), and much more. I was very excited when one of the guides told me that due to the number of dogs in the village, jaguars often come into the village at night and try to get an easy midnight snack. No, Mom, I wasn't lying in wait for jaguars at night.
But I would have liked to :D My hotel was located on the beach, a bit away from the national park, but I could always hear the sea.
This is my favorite place so far. Sometimes you're in places where you leave a piece of yourself while taking a piece of others. Tortuguero belongs to the latter, and I hope they continue to maintain the balance between the needs of nature and tourism.
