Travel from the desert to the tropics

Published: 18.01.2017

Today was the last time we had to get up early to drive to the last unvisited viewpoint for the sunrise at Uluru.

It was once again a perfect timing, but I have to say: the sunset is simply more spectacular than the sunrise. My advice, if you're ever there: take in every sunset you can and only do the sunrise once (that way you'll still have some relaxation factor left).

Other than that, our day consisted of traveling: Ayers Rock-Sydney-Cairns (with 2 time zone changes, just to make it more challenging) with Virgin Australia.

Except for the lady at the check-in counter, who was very strict about the hand luggage and made us rearrange it (we now know that a pair of jeans weighs 600 grams - who knows when we might need that information again), so we wouldn't exceed the allowed 7 kg (the colleague who checked us in afterwards, since the lady got a Japanese tour group (ha!), didn't care about our hand luggage (even when asked)...) everyone was once again super friendly and we not only landed in Sydney 15 minutes early, but also in Cairns. Still loving it!

My 'duck' suitcase didn't seem to enjoy the travel today or it talked too much to the loaders... now it has a 5cm long crack, which won't be fixed... they say I should submit a claim to my insurance company... still managed to get them to take a damage report - if it crashes again, the duck will start speaking Chinese or something...
