10th Day - Addo

Published: 23.09.2017

We have just returned from our sundowner tour in Addo Elephant. Despite the less than optimal weather conditions, we can now cross off a number of animals from our want-to-see list. The weather was not optimal today as it was quite windy and not very sunny. As a result, the animals like to hide among the bushes. Nevertheless, we were able to spot some animals: elephants, buffalo, zebras, kudus, ostriches, and herons. I was particularly captivated by the clumsy baby elephants. They do the same foot movement as their mom to loosen the grass, but they don't even touch the ground😂 The coolest moment during the tour was enjoying a drink away from the jeeps with a feeding bull elephant nearby.

We have also seen the most dangerous animal of the Big Five. Surprisingly, it's not the lion but the buffalo. Buffalos don't warn their opponents before attacking like lions or rhinos do. Unfortunately, we haven't seen any lions or rhinos. But that's no surprise considering there are only 6 lions in the park, while about 600 elephants call the park home. Hence the name of the park. However, we still want to try our luck tomorrow to spot more, possibly rare, species of animals. This is especially possible at sunrise. So, we will be getting up early tomorrow to explore the park as self-drivers when it opens at 7 am. That's the plan at least😁 I won't leave the park until I have seen at least Pumbas - the chances for that are certainly not bad 🤔
