Island - Day 11 - West Island

Published: 23.09.2016

The very stormy night had an advantage, the very dirty car had been cleaned like by a steam cleaner.

After waking up, we wanted to strengthen ourselves with a sip of the natural mineral spring Ölkelda. 'Be very healthy,' they said. Quote after the first sip: 'I'm gonna puke'. After that, it was a done deal!

To not lose motivation, we then examined hexagonal (6-sided) rocks at Gerduberg. Not quite accurate but still acceptable, occasionally pentagonal rocks were sighted.

Another 'must-have done in Iceland' was then crossed off. Eating ice cream in Iceland.

The volcanic crater Grabrok was our next destination. At this highlight, you could walk around the crater at the top. Beautiful view.

Next, we drove to the waterfalls Barnafoss and Hraunfossar. Over a length of about 1 km, water oozes between bushes and rocks at Hraunfossar, which flows into the river Hvita through numerous waterfalls. Both very impressive.

The last stop of the 11th day was the largest geothermal spring in Europe, Deildartunguhver, with water as hot as 100°C.

End of Day 11.
