One week in Hungary

Published: 05.05.2016

Good day!

Budapest was as beautiful as we know it, we just briefly lost our way when we couldn't find the Ferris wheel at Deak - no idea where it is, but it's not there anymore!

After 3 nights in Budapest we continued south along Lake Balaton. In Tihany we found a nice green parking spot to stay overnight, which was right by Lake Balaton.

The next morning, which was Sunday, we continued our journey. During a stop in Keszthely, we ended up at the cafe of the artist Victoria Oravecz, who greeted us very warmly and prepared a delicious lunch for us. While she was cooking for us in the small kitchen, she showed us her works and paintings that are exhibited in her cafe, and told us a few stories about them, herself or the town of Keszthely. The food was really delicious, so the stop was definitely worth it!

On the same day we went even further into the countryside of Hungary. Our destination was the farm of Thomas, who lives here with his girlfriend Anna in a small village. To be precise, they even live a little outside the village on a large hilly piece of land. It's beautiful and peaceful here! There are two horses, a cat, a dog, a lot of fruit trees, a small vegetable garden, vineyards and at the moment a lot of green grass (which turns into a dry steppe in summer).

During the day, we helped Thomas and Anna. For example, on the construction site of a new clay house that the two of them are building themselves, chopping wood or removing mud holes from the mud. We slept in our own cozy clay hut with a stove, a real bed and an outhouse in the pasture. There was no running water, but the water source wasn't far!

Overall, it was a super exciting and interesting time with them, we learned a lot and had fun evenings together! Thank you!

We would have liked to stay longer, but Knut needs to be moved again and we are already excited about Romania! So off we go!

La reverdere!!

Lucas and Henni
