10.03.2018 - Wellington - Martinborough - Greytown

Published: 20.03.2018

After 2 days in Wellington, we continued on Saturday towards Matrinborough and Greytown. A very varied and winding road with lots of ups and downs.

I started at around 16 degrees Celsius. I arrived in Martinborough at 25 degrees Celsius. Wonderful!

Martinborough is only a stopover instead of the destination. Since I once again couldn't find accommodation at the destination, I had to rearrange and looked for accommodation about 18 km away in Greytown.

When I arrived in Matrtinborough, it quickly became clear to me why there were no rooms available. It was Saturday, late summer, peak wedding season, wine festival, and simply beautiful.

So, there was a lot going on. Since the area here is very flat and all the wineries are very close to the center, the common wine tourist rides a bike.

I had never experienced that before! Waiting in line for a wine tasting! In front of me, mostly a group of young women celebrating their bachelorette party and moving from winery to winery on a bike, tandem, or double bike, singing, shrieking, and quickly getting drunk.

But at the end of the day, I became a small attraction because I usually spit out the wine during the tastings. The girls couldn't understand that.

It was very funny being alone with all the girls :-)

After 3 wine tastings, I continued to Greytown to Vicki and Lionel, where I had booked a room. They rent rooms on an old farm. Very beautiful, especially at night it is so dark that you can see the Milky Way wonderfully.
