Valparaiso - the real south

Published: 21.01.2019

It seems that we have a bad karma when it comes to long distance flights: currently we are sitting at the airport in Santiago. The plane that we should have been on for 45 minutes has just landed. So we will not make the connection and do not have any information on what's next. The night was already short. The neighboring house had a party from 2:30 am, we had to get up at 4:30 am... But at least our lovely host personally dropped us off at the bus station. We ended our exploration trip in Valparaiso, Chile. A crazy, colorful, smelly, never-sleeping, cultural, musical, loud, sunny city on the coast. A complete contrast to Punta Arenas before. We stayed in Isaac's house, who works as an architect, rents to students in the winter, hosts tourists in the summer, and has his long-term guests as well.
And we did:
We ate delicious food, visited the art museum, the cultural center, the lighthouse, the sea, once again couldn't find things (meeting point for the tour of the workers' quarter), took rides on the funicular railways, walked even more stairs and slopes, tried to do some souvenir shopping, laid in the hammock, chased cats out of our room,... A special city, lots of young people, lots of artists and it seems like a place where you can make something out of it. We wanted to skip Valparaiso because everyone goes there, but I would say now: a must for every visit to Chile! A truly special city.
