Walking in Gansbaai

Published: 11.11.2019

The weather report for today is not really great, after an exquisite breakfast at Jill and Gideon's, we decided, after consulting with Jill, to explore the surrounding area.

A short walk through the neighborhood brought us to the edge of the nature reserve, which we crossed to the viewpoint in about 15 minutes.

Then we went down about 200 steps to the small beach and then back up the rocks to the old caves. According to Jill, these are over 80,000 years old and the water used to be about 2 km away from the caves. It was probably a habitat of our ancestors.

At the entrance to the cave, we saw two klippschlieffers dozing. After a short walk through the cave, we made our way back to our accommodation via the stairs. We returned just in time before the rain.

Now we are sitting in the conservatory, looking out at the sea and hoping to see whales. In the meantime, we are planning the route for tomorrow's drive to Franschhoek and writing this report.

Tonight we will be pampered at Thyme at Rosemary's in Gansbaai.
