Day 4 - 23.06.2024 Calgary Zoo and trip to Banff

Published: 24.06.2024

We spontaneously decided to visit the Calgary Zoo, even though we knew it would be quite crowded on Sunday.

For breakfast, Martin had organized baked goods from Tim Hortons from ToGoodToGo for us at a reasonable price. Who would have thought that they were available in Canada too ;-)

We actually went to the zoo shortly after it opened and spent about 6 hours there. First we went to the penguin world, then on to Wild Canada, Africa, Gardens, Asia and back through the Prehistoric Park. The zoo and the facilities and enclosures were really nicely done. There were also lots of playgrounds. We didn't see some of the animals and many were sleeping in the heat. It was pretty warm. But at least we saw Jette's favorite animal, the red panda, even though it was hanging in the tree, breathing heavily from the heat. The snow leopard that ran back and forth along the window was also great.

Then we drove about 1.5 hours out of the city into the mountains, the Rocky Mountains, to Banff. Here we stayed in the Aspen Lodge, room 111, right next to the foyer and also right next to the hot tubs. The weather was suddenly completely different, because it had rained and was much cooler than in Calgary. The girls fought over the beds again, but at least we have two queen-size beds here. After that, Juliane fell asleep, exhausted.

Here you can see that the region is very popular with tourists. Many people here...

Tomorrow we'll take a look around here.
