It's my birthday.

Published: 22.11.2017

I'm a birthday kid. A beautiful breakfast table and lovely gifts are waiting for me, and I have prepared a surprise for our group as well.

In the evening, we will attend a Luau. Luau is a traditional Hawaiian festival with a grand buffet and various traditional dances.

I have chosen the Royal Kona Resort for my birthday Luau. The price is quite high at $91 per person, but considering that food and drinks are included, it becomes more reasonable, at least in Hawaii.

When we arrive at the resort, the first guests are already waiting, and we see the stage beautifully located by the sea. The excitement is building. After admission, everyone receives a beautiful shell necklace, and the obligatory photo, which can be purchased after the show, is taken.

Then we take our seats and can enjoy one of the countless beautiful Hawaiian sunsets.

The buffet is opened. It's a buffet with traditional Hawaiian specialties, salads, and desserts. The Hawaiian pig, which is baked in an underground oven, is also offered. It's somewhat reminiscent of pulled pork and is delicious. The drinks are also included in the price. The Mai Tai is a bit weak here, so we get an extra shot of rum. Beer and other cocktails are also available, but unfortunately, there is no menu, so we don't know what we could order.

During the meal, the show begins. It's called 'Voyagers of the Pacific,' and it showcases traditional dances from different Pacific states.

Graceful hula dancers move to the rhythm of sometimes cheesy Hawaiian music.

The dances of the men are wilder but demonstrate the great skill of the performers.

Following the American show style, there are some interactions for the guests to participate in, and then we are treated to the highlight of the show, a traditional fire dance from Samoa. It's breathtaking to see the performer's dexterity with the torches.

At the end of the show, you can still have your photo taken with the performers.

A beautiful birthday comes to an end, as well as our stay on Big Island.

We didn't get to see the lava. The lava god didn't like us. But maybe another time.

Now, let's head to the Garden Island.

Kauai awaits us.
