We sleep a little longer (until half past 7 π ). Since the showers are still cold, we quickly go for breakfast - pancakes and omelette once again. After that, we pack up and check out. We try to get refunds from the airline for the days without luggage. Let's see if we are lucky.
As impressive as the safari days were - we are now looking forward to a bit of warmth π Ollie and Albright are driving with us to Nairobi. Short stop for tire pressure (problems with the front wheel? π€·ββοΈ No, everything is fine). Albright gives us ginger lemon cookies and says that today is the last day of the election campaign - it will be 'crazy' and noisy on the streets π.
In between, we briefly worry about getting to the airport late, but the closer we get to Nairobi, the wider the roads become.π Our guide will handle itπ We pass by the Delmonte pineapple fields πππ We are once again surprised by the traffic hustle and bustle (cars, buses, mopeds, and pedestrians) - at first glance, it is mega chaotic π± but it works π we have only seen one accident this week.
Shortly before the airport, it gets crowded again... We have to stop in traffic at several large roundabouts π Check-in is only from 2:00 PM to 2:50 PM... It's 1:50 PM...14:10... 14:25... Thanks to Ollie's offensive but safe driving style, we make it at 2:35 PM! Phew, that was exciting! Just in time. We say goodbye to our two cool companions, after Albright has helped us with the suitcases π What a first week.
Security check (no feverπ ) and off to the small plane. Boarding is only 15 minutes before departure. We see our suitcases at the plane and are relieved that they will come directly this time π Off to Ukunda π« 70 minutes of flight time. First Benny falls asleep, then Melly (after reading half a book π ). 50 meters from the landing site is the 'arrival hall' - similar to an open bus stop π€£ Both suitcases are there πͺ and we find our driver right away.
Simple wooden/mud huts alternate with large resorts, later magnificent facilities on Diani Beach. We wonder if it is low tide or high tide - because of the transfer to the island. It's low tide - so we drive by tractor π But it has just left, so we wait at Chale Harbor. With a pack of young dogs πΆ
We drive with the tractor + trailer directly at sunsetπ and are warmly welcomed on the island. The keyword 'honeymoon' gives us a free massage for the next day βΊ Our room is at the top, so we have a mega viewπ Hotel info: always close the room when you leave - otherwise the monkeys will have a party in the room ππ€£π΅π
After a hot shower (finally π ) we want to enjoy our dinner. A moment of panic - Melly is looking for her ring... We turn the whole room upside down - even the room service helps with the search. While searching, we startle a small lizard π¦. In the end, the ring is found safely in the wallet in the safe. Benny was sweating wet with worry π± .
We still make it in time for dinner and have pizza. Then we go to the room. The hotel complex is too big to explore completely today. We even got lost briefly π
Very happy, Melly and Benny go to sleepπ΄
Stay tuned ππΒ
P.s. Photos will be added later π
