The last week of school started, every moment counts

WELCOME BACK! to our blog. Glad you guys found your way back here. The last week of school at Kennedy High begins.

After an exciting and eventful weekend, we are starting our second week of school at Kennedy High School in Iowa.

My day starts very early. My alarm clock rings at 4:30 a.m. I get up and get ready for the day. Some of you may wonder why I voluntarily get up at 4:30 a.m. when the school day doesn't start until 8 a.m.... The reason is that my exchange student Liz has "diving practice" every day. The practice starts at 5:30 a.m. every morning. Getting up early is a big adjustment for me now that I'm used to American time. I ask Liz where she gets the motivation for the demanding workout every day. Liz tells me that it is normal for students in America to participate in clubs before and after school because they can greatly enhance their college application. Additionally, she has the chance to receive a scholarship, which can greatly help her and her family finance her expensive studies.

The practice ends around 7 a.m., and we head to the "breakfast room." This is a common room for the entire swimming and diving team at Kennedy High School. Everyone sits together, has breakfast, and prepares for the school day. The "breakfast room" not only has a large, fully equipped kitchen with typical foods like waffles, Lucky Charms, or snacks like Cheetos or Doritos, but also a couch for resting and a TV on the wall.

Our last week of school has begun, and it is very special for us exchange students. Why? The school allows us to create our own schedule this week according to our interests. We have formed small groups and will attend classes without our hosts today. I go to the first block with two other friends.

It's 7:50 a.m., and we have "food fundamental" class. This is where students learn all the basics about nutrition.

We then move on to the second block at 9:30 a.m. Now we are in art class. We have an assignment to paint with watercolors and get creative.

At 11:10 a.m., we head to German class. We always feel particularly comfortable here. Today's lesson is mainly about grammar and prepositions. To make the content more engaging for the students, the teacher has designed a fun game.

In the last block, I have study period. Here, students have the opportunity to do homework or study for upcoming tests.

The school day ends at 2:50 p.m., and Liz and I head back home. We are both a bit tired and rest at home.

At 6 p.m., we take a little trip to Target. It's a huge store where you can get almost anything.

Back home, it's time for dinner. We have tacos today. We end the evening with a game that the whole family participates in.
