6th day from Weimar to Markranstädt

Published: 14.09.2018

After a good breakfast, I set off at 8.30 am in drizzling rain. For the first time, I put on my rain jacket. A good purchase, it is breathable and keeps me warm.

The rain stopped, but it was quite chilly (13 degrees Celsius). I left Weimar behind and headed towards Apolda through the beautiful Ilmtal valley. A great bike path right next to the Ilm river. Smoothly paved. I rode through Bad Sulza and then came Apolda. I continued through Bad Kösen and through the Saale-Unstrut wine-growing region, right along the Saale river. There are very nice Besenwirtschaften (unfortunately, they were still closed) there. Here too, there is a great bike path all the way to Naumburg. I had an extensive lunch break at the Ratskeller am Rathaus. Very beautiful old town and marketplace. After that, I continued along the Saale river until Weißenfels. I took a short break at the Weißenfels rowing club and watched the young ones rowing.

Then I continued towards Leipzig, crossing the A9 motorway through Lützen and then back on the bike path until shortly before Markranstädt. After a 91 km stage, I reached my destination, the Hotel Rosenkranz.
