19.01.2023 from Anglers Reach to Ngarigo

Published: 20.01.2023

We slowly start to warm up in the car, and it is not until we cross the Great Dividing Range that the fog clears, the sun regains strength, and it noticeably brightens up. Arriving at the limestone cave, the world looks friendly again, it is warm, and we enjoy the morning. We visit the cave on our own, without a guided tour, and see stalagmites and stalactites, curtains and domes. Every time we take a few steps, a new light turns on and it gets dark behind us. A worth-seeing cave but nothing extraordinary.

We don't go to the hot spring anymore, the 27 degrees are too cold for me and Frank finds the 700m descent and ascent too much.

So we drive to the stronghold of Mt. Kocsiuszko National Park and tomorrow we want to take the cable car to get close to the mountain.

Resolving disputes in Australian style:

Our campsite number 5 is taken, when the user of site number 6 arrives, it is also occupied. We discuss the situation first and then we are referred to other sites by a friendly camper after consulting with a ranger. But then the other campers return and explain that although they have booked a different site, there is enough space for everyone. If we insist on using site number 5, it would take at least an hour for him to pack up his things and we surely wouldn't want that. The camper who claims site number 6 gives in, Frank would like to stick to his booking, and I also give in. So everyone stays at the site they have already taken, only Frank is not satisfied because our site doesn't have a fire pit. Tomorrow we will most likely have an entire campground to ourselves again.

PS: we are at an altitude of about 1400m, it will be cold again tonight.
