Arriving in a million metropolis

Published: 22.01.2018

Arriving in a million metropolis. These few words actually describe the start of our journey pretty well.

We started on 10.01 by train from Jena to Frankfurt. The train ride went smoothly and we were able to enjoy a cozy breakfast while admiring the German landscape one last time.

Upon arrival in Frankfurt, we began with the usual tasks that needed to be done. Check-in, wrapping our backpacks (highly recommended if you want to be extra safe), and going through security checks.

And then it began. Off by plane to Amsterdam, our first and only stopover. A few hours after we arrived, we were on our way again: 13 hours on an airplane... Not exactly ideal if you prefer solid ground beneath your feet.

However, the flight had a significant advantage. We flew overnight and were able to get a few hours of sleep, which prevented jet lag.

After 13 seemingly endless hours, we finally arrived. Buenos Aires, a city with 13 million inhabitants, lay before us. And what do you think was the first thing that painfully caught our attention?

It was hot. Simply hot. To be precise, 30 degrees. We were incredibly lucky because Jonas, a friend of Conni and Hilmar, had offered that we could stay with him for the first time.

During the day, we spent time at Jonas' place and tried to concentrate on playing cards. It worked more or less :)

From the first day on, it felt like we had landed in a small corner of home. Jonas' shared apartment, which he shared with 3 other volunteers, was spacious and had a huge rooftop that could be accessed by a small ladder. My personal highlight!

In the evening, we cooked together and, as is usual in a shared apartment full of young people, improvised during the meal. I have to say that we created the most amazing rice dish with vegetables that I have ever eaten in my life.

As the perfect end to a really long day, Jonas and Hilmar played the guitar. And I must say: damn good!!!

Conclusion: A damn exhausting, long day but a wonderful start to a great adventure.
