Day 16: Humlum

Published: 21.07.2019

The ferry to Hirthals departs at 8 o'clock, so we have to get up early again. Loading the ship goes quickly and without any problems. Finding a place to sit proves difficult. The ferry is full. Eventually, we manage to get 2 chairs and sit down in a corner. The children play in the play area. The ship sways slightly, but I am prepared for motion sickness with chewing gum. It also helps Erik. We still have 150 Nok, about 15€ left, so the children each get a Lego set and are thrilled. After 3 hours and 15 minutes, we arrive in Hirthals on time. It's raining in Denmark, but thanks to Wetteronline, we find out through the rain radar that the rain will stop around 1 pm. So our destination is Skagen / Grenen. We get some groceries and a lunch snack. After eating, we start the 3-kilometer circular route. We walk along the Baltic Sea. We see old bunker facilities. There are many people on the way. After about 15 minutes, we reach the destination, the point where the North Sea and the Baltic Sea meet. The exact location and shape of the outermost sandbar changes from day to day, depending on the current and wind conditions. We stay there briefly and start the way back. We reach the parking lot around half past 2. We still have a 3-hour drive ahead of us. In Humlum, we stay in a small cottage near the North Sea for 2 days. We settle in and cook for dinner. In the evening, the children bathe in the large whirlpool. When David sees it, he wants to go bathing right away.
