Canadian Thanksgiving is on 09.10.17. In the States, it's at a different time. My host family traditionally goes camping on the weekend associated with it and of course took us with them.
So we were picked up on Friday after school and quickly packed the last things at home to then make our way to Saratoga Beach.
You might expect to go further away, like you would in Germany. However, the campground is only a 20-minute drive away. You don't have to travel far to reach beautiful places here. (I'm not saying that the region where I live in Germany is ugly). The campground is right by the sea and has its own harbor. I slept in the camper with my host sister, which is really luxurious.
The weather was mixed this weekend, while there was blue sky and sunshine on Sunday, it rained half of Saturday.
Accordingly, we didn't accomplish much this weekend. We relaxed and slept a lot. On Saturday, we went out on the boat and saw sea lions and seals. We also tried to catch fish, but had no success. In the evening, we sat with the family by the fire. My host mother's brother-in-law somehow has a thing for fire, it was pretty funny. On Saturday, we had the Thanksgiving dinner. Each family celebrates it on a different day here. Many on Monday, but we celebrated it on Saturday. We had turkey, which tastes just like chicken, and various side dishes. On Sunday, we drove back home and watched a movie in the evening.
I spent the actual Thanksgiving day with friends in Royston (just look it up on Maps).
So I didn't really spend Thanksgiving here in a traditional way, but it was more fun.
