Day 26: Branch Bremen

Published: 07.08.2023

The wind is whistling as I leave my hotel and make my way to Flughafenallee 13-15. As I turn onto the Weserbrücke, the wind almost knocks me over, it came around the corner so suddenly. But I arrive dry at Branch Bremen.
I am also warmly welcomed here. I can personally say goodbye to some colleagues I have worked well with for many years. It's a shame that it's still vacation time (at least for me).
There are only a few colleagues at the location. My journey interests many people, and there are nice conversations. I receive a lot of recognition for my action. So in the end I count 76 € in cash donations in my 'donation box' - the bicycle helmet. In addition, there are several PayPal donations, as my colleagues assure me. Munich reports that I am moving towards 5,000 € in donations. How awesome is that?
Every now and then I look outside where the rain is almost coming horizontally. Good thing I'm not on the road right now.
After the common lunch, I get ready to travel.

Then I get on my bike. It's dry again, the wind will mostly not hit me from the front. I go a lot on the road until I'm out of Bremen and get to Achim. I had to go there in any case, even though I was baptized Joachim. But that's not because of my parents, but because of a registrar in Esslingen who in 1959 stated firmly that 'Achim' is not an independent first name. Only Joachim was possible, but I am usually called 'Achim'.
The place itself is not worth mentioning, but it has several barber shops, and I have my beard trimmed in one of them. I usually do this myself, but I didn't have the beard trimmer with me. Hanover will see me a bit more civilized...
So I continue cycling, it's going well, 30 km/h are easily possible on the best asphalt (with wind assistance). After 20 km between fields, forests, and meadows, I reach Verden. Once again, I ask the tourist information office about accommodation options, and finally what used to be no issue happens: room booking. After just one call, we come to an agreement: I take a private room with breakfast and WLAN, as presumably the only guest the bathroom belongs to me. It costs 45 €. Everything is fine!
