Yesterday I returned once again from the addiction rehabilitation center where I work as a psychology intern every two weeks.
Now that I am more familiar with the procedures and have learned some important terms, I was able to be much more actively involved this time.
To be able to move up to the next therapy group, the patients take a small exam every few months. In addition, evaluations are always carried out to assess the patients' mental state. I was able to conduct some of these evaluations myself (e.g. the depression scale) and assist with exam supervision.
Furthermore, for the first time, I was able to lead a topic in a workshop. I spoke with the patients for about half an hour about withdrawal and withdrawal symptoms, explaining to them how these symptoms occur.
As I continue to learn more about interacting with the patients and gradually improve my Spanish language skills, I will be able to participate even more in the work at the center in the future. There is always a lot for psychologists to do there and I am pleased that the work is very diverse, as we are almost always in contact with the patients.
Even though the three days at the center are always very tiring for me, I can feel that I am learning a lot and enjoying my internship.
