A large number of my travel companions set out to visit Rome today. Since I had already seen the most important things in Rome and didn't want to put myself through the hustle and bustle there, I decided to take a look at Civitavecchia.

At around 9:00 a.m. a shuttle bus took me outside the port area. There, lots of tour operators and taxi drivers were waiting for the passengers of the eight (!) cruise ships that were in or outside the port.

I decided to take an open-top tour bus, which didn't leave until 10 a.m. We drove past historic buildings, a fortress and the beach to a Roman bathhouse that is over 2,000 years old.

Then we went back to the city and if you wanted, you could get off in the city center instead of at the harbor. I did that and walked to the beach where I had seen a huge statue as I drove past. The statue is based on a world-famous photo: after the end of the Second World War, a sailor kisses a nurse.

I looked around the market, bought drinks (including a chestnut drink) at the supermarket and returned to the ship.

In the afternoon I listened to the String Reverie Trio, and in the evening I attended the great concert by singer Nicola Ward.
