The journey continued along the Loire to the nearby town of Tours. It was time for a shower, so we found a campsite in Vouvray. We checked in the morning and explored the town of Vouvray by bike. The road is lined with wine cellars that invite you to taste. Well, we gladly followed this invitation. The lady in the first shop wasn't very talkative, so we bought a bottle of the local white wine and moved on to the next wine cellar. There we were met with the opposite, the gentleman had plenty of words to say without stopping. After four tasting wines, we were already trying to politely get out of the situation, but he even poured us a fifth, hicks... We left the shop with a full backpack. Although I would say that I know quite a bit about wines, I was unfamiliar with Bourgueil until now. Highly recommended!
First back to the campsite, unload the bottles and have a snack with French delicacies.
With a full stomach, we took our bikes to the university city of Tours. We parked our bikes at the mighty Gothic cathedral of Saint-Gatien. Inside, it impresses with its colored windows and their stories.
Shortly afterward, a tree in the Jardin du Musee des Beaux-Arts, planted in 1804, also amazed us. In the old town, we strolled through the many small alleys, always fascinated by the many half-timbered houses.
Several rain showers later, we returned safely to the campsite and, of course, tried the white wine from the village. We could understand why the lady in the first wine cellar was rather reticent, we probably wouldn't have bought this wine with a tasting ;-)
