Hard to believe that our long-awaited honeymoon (which we've been looking forward to for almost 1.5 years now!) is actually starting now. After a very peaceful flight with a magnificent view of the Alps, we arrive in the beach resort of Recife, in eastern Brazil, after 10 hours. But we only change planes here, and it quickly becomes clear to us how big this country is. The onward flight to Sao Paulo takes another 3 hours, but on the map it is only a very small part.
The next day we explore the city - of course we take great care, as we have been advised several times. From the modern Avenida Paulista, we continue to our personal highlight: the Street Art district 'Beco do Batman'. You want to photograph every single artwork... and yes, we do too :) We still buy a t-shirt at Cordel Urbano in his hip bus and drive back to the city center. The view from the Farol Santander skyscraper then makes us realize how huge the Sao Paulo region is, with its over 20 million inhabitants! Together with the surrounding cities, it stretches practically 60 km - from one end to the other - house by house. In one of the many exhibitions in the Farol building, we also get to know the 'Waste Artworks' by Vik Muniz, who created artworks from various garbage at a landfill in Rio de Janeiro.
As the crowning finale of our first day, we meet my dear colleague Juliana and her husband + family for dinner and get to know various delicious Brazilian specialties as well as the very familiar and lovable Brazilian culture. A little tired, we fall into bed around midnight... The first day couldn't have been better!!
