On Friday morning, we took the Intercity from Dunedin to Queenstown. Departure was at 8.30 am in Dunedin and after about 5 hours of travel, we arrived in Queenstown with the best weather.
We then bought a ticket for the gondola to the Queenstown skyline and shortly afterwards, we went up with the gondola.
Already on the ride, we had a great view and when we arrived at the top, we were simply amazed. There were various viewpoints with the best opportunities for many photos and the view was stunningly beautiful. From the restaurant, we enjoyed the view while having a small and expensive glass of wine.
Afterwards, we used the time to visit the souvenir shop and the street luge, which we could ride at the viewpoint.
In the evening, we had the best burger in New Zealand at Fergburger, it was truly the best burger we have eaten so far. After that, we enjoyed the view of Lake Wakatipu with a bottle of wine and then went to various pubs and bars.
Saturday was the big day for us when we booked our skydiving jump. It started at 12.00 pm with all the formalities and the safety briefing. Then we were taken to the loading zone and saw the first skydivers who had just landed. We were then dressed and interviewed before the jump. And then we were already in the air. After 20 minutes of flight time, it started. We didn't really realize all this and suddenly you jump out of a plane from a height of 15,000 feet, 60 seconds of free fall, and 5 minutes of paragliding, where you could really enjoy the view. When we arrived back on the ground, we both had an uneasy feeling in our stomachs and pressure on our ears, so we had to regenerate first. When we looked at our pictures and videos of the jump, we took the bus back to Queenstown.
On Sundays, we took advantage of the perfect weather to just chill in the city center and sunbathe at Lake Wakatipu in the afternoon. At 26 degrees Celsius and with wind, the sun didn't feel that strong to us, but we still got our first sunburn. After a few sunny hours, it was already time to return home.
After an exciting, adventurous, and very beautiful weekend, we arrived back in Dunedin in the evening and were glad to be able to sleep in our own bed again.
