Today we traveled east into the interior of the island with our scooter to see several waterfalls and rice terraces at the foot of the volcano. The scooter tour has once again shown us that traffic rules in Indonesia are more like recommendations than actual rules. We were particularly impressed by the custom that left-turners always have the right of way. For example, left-turners do not observe traffic lights.
In the national park, we had a private tour. This was good because some paths were not recognizable as such. They led through thickets and streams, and we even had to climb short distances. Due to the stream crossings, it was sometimes unavoidable that our shoes got wet.
The sight of the 4 waterfalls was gigantic. It was particularly impressive that it looked like the water was flowing directly from the rock or the rainforest. At the last waterfall, we bathed and 'showered' under it.
After lunch, we continued to drive to see the rice terraces. They were also very impressive, but completely without tourists. For us, the rice terraces were the highlight; for the locals, it was us.
