Zurich – Cape Town – Robertson

Жарыяланган: 10.10.2022

On Sunday evening around 11:00 pm, with a delay of about half an hour because some passengers were missing, the Edelweiss WK84 from Zurich to Cape Town took off. The airplane was almost fully booked and occupied.

After a scheduled flight of 10 hours and 50 minutes, we landed in Cape Town on time. For our farewell from Switzerland, we were served veal bratwurst with rösti or Älpler macaroni. After that, the lights were turned off and it became quiet in the airplane. The flight was a little turbulent due to turbulence.

After the punctual landing in Cape Town, we went to passport control, which was carried out very efficiently because no additional health documents need to be presented anymore. After that, the luggage was already ready to be picked up at conveyor belt 1. After freshening up a bit, we went to Vodacom to ensure our reachability in Switzerland. With two new SIM cards, we went to the car rental center with our luggage. After the paperwork, we were able to pick up our Hyundai Creta (silver) at the parking lot. We loaded the luggage, mounted the router, set up the navigation system, and soon we were on our way to Paarl / Robertson. The TomTom led us on an adventurous route through the city, and we were both a little surprised by the route choice of our TomTom (more on that later). Somehow, we also made it onto the highway, which took us through Paarl, the Huguenot Tunnel towards Worcester. Shortly before Robertson, our TomTom told us to leave the main road and led us on a 20 km dirt road towards Robertson.

Here, we visited the Graham Beck Winery, which produces very good South African "champagne" (MMCs). With a cheese and cold cuts platter and a glass of MMC, we toasted to our journey.

After a short drive and a little searching, we finally found the Ballinderry Guesthouse in Robertson. Luc, the owner, greeted us and led us to our room (we received an upgrade). After a refreshing shower, we went to 4 Cousins and let the day come to an end and review it with some small bites.

PS After teaching the TomTom that I do not want "environmentally friendly routes", it will probably resume its usual service from tomorrow onwards.
