Roadtrip Day 9-10 / Gibb River Road

Жарыяланган: 27.09.2017

Early in the morning, we headed to Wyndham, a city that used to be the center of the Australian gold rush. A nice city, for which the 200km detour was worth it.

When we arrived at the intersection to Gibb River Road and the road conditions were good, the adventure began. From now on, it was 1000km of gravel road and off-road. After 100km and crossing the first rivers, we reached El Questro Station. A former cattle farm that covers over 1 million acres, but now only operates as a tourist attraction and is overpriced. Unfortunately, it was the only option for camping. At least we met our Australian camp neighbors from Kakadu National Park and spent a sociable evening together.

The next morning, we set off at 7 o'clock for a walk to a bathing spot with water temperature of about 30 degrees Celsius. Perfect for waking up. Then we drove to Emma Gorge (supposed to be one of the most beautiful places in the world). After a 3km walk, we reached the ice-cold water and refreshed ourselves. An impressive place for us, but we have seen some more beautiful places.

Back at the parking lot, we drove 130km to a cattle farm - Ellenbrae Cattle Station. A beautiful place in the middle of nowhere. We received a lot of information about life on the farm. The campsite was good and even had a beach by the river. Fortunately, we were only briefly in the water. Shortly after, we discovered crocodile tracks leading to the water.
