It was now said: the last 24 hours had begun. We wouldn't say that we were happy about it, but we weren't very sad either. Slowly, our butts were hurting from all the boat riding and we were marked by the night in the hammock. Without a shower, with legs that were bitten by mosquitoes. Friends, there are really better things in life. 🙈 But stinking, we continued to an indigenous family. We were told about their fruit plantation and daily life and were also allowed to try some things.
By the way, about 300 people live on Juma Lake, who feed themselves relatively independently. Electricity, for example, is generated by solar energy. Internet or mobile network can only be dreamed of 😁. On the way back to our lodge, we met a little black confused monkey who was just crossing the river, probably looking for his family. It was so cute. Once on land, he immediately climbed up the trees and disappeared into the forest. Before lunch, we took a little nap, and as it should be - after lunch, we needed a little more sleep. Sunbathing is almost impossible anyway 🌞🌡. We actually always had around 35 degrees, possibly even more in the sun. In the afternoon, we went paddling through a bit of Amazonian undergrowth and ended up at an indigenous school. The children and teenagers are picked up by boats from their homes. In the morning, there is class for the children up to 4th grade, in the afternoon up to 10th grade, and in the evening, it's time for high school. Lessons are conducted via a television or a computer connected to the closest larger city, Manaus, through video conferencing.
After dinner at the lodge, we had a couple of beers with Paulo and mainly gossiped about everything. But by half past ten, it was already so pitch dark that we went to bed. 🍻 Last day has arrived, breakfast at 7 in the morning and shortly after 8, we went to a wild rubber plantation, where we made rubber on our own. Interesting process, but a challenge for impatient people 😁 The material comes from the blood of the trees, which is collected and dried over a lot of heat in several layers.
So that's the end of our tour. The return was the same procedure as the outward journey, only a bit faster. Marie slept in the bus as usual, although it's actually impossible with these potholes, and then this afternoon, we arrived at the ibis Hotel at the airport in Manaus. Luckily, the European Championship is being broadcasted and the pizza delivery service didn't take long. We trembled and cheered with the German team 😍.
In this sense, we already say: Bye Manaus. And according to German time, we will arrive in Fortaleza tomorrow around 6 p.m. to enjoy ourselves on the beach after all the hardships. We think of you and hug you tightly! Of course, we will be back as Beachbabes 😙
