9. Stop Calgary, Alberta

Dɛn dɔn pablish am: 26.11.2019

The 9th stop of my journey, Calgary in Alberta, was reached on Sunday noon. It is the fourth largest city in Canada. Even though many portals state that the city is not particularly attractive for tourists, I have planned several days as extremely cold temperatures are forecasted and I am not quite sure how motivated I will be for sightseeing ;)

A shuttle picked me up directly at the hostel in Banff and took me to downtown Banff within 2 hours. I was lucky and was able to check in at the hostel, once again with German roommates ;)

After getting a little oriented, I walked towards downtown. On this day, the final of 2 Canadian football teams took place in Calgary. The city was therefore, probably also because the weather was not the best and it was a Sunday, very empty and grey. I had my first stop at Olympic Plaza. The square was created for the awarding of medals on the occasion of the 15th Olympic Games and is a public ice rink in the winter. Afterwards, I visited the Wonderland Sculpture. This wire sculpture represents the head of a girl and stands in front of Canada's tallest building - the Bow.

I crossed the Eau Claire Plaza to get to Prince Island. From there, I could see the Peace Bridge, which stands for 100 years of peace between the USA and Canada. Behind it, I was able to see the sunset, unfortunately the only rays of sunshine on that day.

The Bow River also flows through Calgary, along which I walked until I reached Calgary's Chinatown - compared to Vancouver, however, it is very small and unspectacular. The government building was my last stop of the day.
