This morning Veronika and my path separated again. She drove to Cluj airport with her rental car. I continued driving towards South/Southeast.
It was a very impressive drive today. First towards the Southern Carpathians, mostly on highways. Then I turned east, left the main road and drove on beautiful winding roads along the edge of the mountains.
At some point, I took the turn towards Buzău. The road went over the mountains, which did not reach the tree line here, heading south.
A beautiful area that you couldn't get enough of. Endless, huge forests. Not like with us, only monocultures, no, they were huge mixed and deciduous forests. The road always adapted to nature, nice and curvy with a few hairpin bends. But then a heavy downpour just before the destination, so heavy that I had to stop at times because I couldn't see anything anymore. It is also not without risk to just continue driving, as there are often rockfalls or debris avalanches.
I had chosen the campsite "near muddy volcano". I will stay here for two nights to visit the "muddy volcanoes" tomorrow.
The place is quite beautifully located, with reception for mobile phones only in one or two specific spots. I reached it via a approximately 15 km long natural trail that was quite challenging after over 450 km.
Extreme inclines and descents on mostly very coarse gravel that was loosely laid. That was a challenge.
When I arrived at the campsite, I first set up the tent. Just as the outer tent was pitched, a thunderstorm was approaching, quickly put all the clothes under the outer tent. Again, a big advantage of my tent. You can continue setting up in peace, everything stays dry.
