In Rotorua, we are overwhelmed by the range of activities: Maori-Culture Nights, rafting, hiking and biking tours, quad biking, and spas on every corner, which you can smell before you see them (due to the high sulfur content). We decide against everything because it all seems too touristy and expensive. So we head to Lake Taupo after a small breakfast, and on the way we see a sign that says CRATERS OF THE MOON. Sounds interesting, we think, and after a quick consultation on Google, we decide to visit this 45-minute and $8 cheap walk through volcanic area - past steam vents and bubbling craters. Very impressive (see photos)! In Taupo, we refuel and do some shopping, and after a short lunch break right by the lake (beautiful!), we go in search of the next place to sleep. Unfortunately, it's once again more difficult and expensive than we had hoped, but now we're in a cozy spot away from the Taupo hustle and bustle. Good night!
